Student of the Month
The April Student of the Month winner is HHS sophomore Karen Tang!
The staff who nominated and voted for her had wonderful things to say about Karen. She is described as a hard working student who is very kind and respectful towards her teachers and fellow classmates. Karen is a joy to know and to be around, and she is a positive, bright spot in everyone's day! I believe everyone who knows Karen would agree. She always has a word of kindness to share with any staff member or peer, regardless of whether they are her friend, her teacher, or someone she just met. She often goes out of her way to make cards for friends, teachers, classmates, and teammates to say happy birthday, good luck, or congratulations -- she created many congratulatory cards for seniors as they made college and post-graduate plans! Karen embodies what it means to be a Hiller. She takes great pride in her role as JV girls basketball manager and as a lacrosse player, and she is looking forward to trying out for the field hockey team in the fall! This year, she joined Habitat for Humanity club and she also does a lot of work with Project 351, such as creating care packages for service men and women overseas and providing blankets for veterans without a home. Karen also helped paint and create the beautiful stone garden in front of HHS on 9/11. After participating in these activities, Karen created a presentation to share with her classes to raise awareness of Project 351's work and to invite her peers to reach out to her if they are interested in joining in future service opportunities. Furthermore, she is a strong advocate for mental and social-emotional health and well-being, and she is a big believer in having a growth mindset both in and out of school. Karen has overcome both academic and personal challenges throughout her sophomore year and has come out stronger, more confident, and more willing to reach out and help anyone going through challenges of their own.
